Don't you ever die?

Oh, this one takes me back.

Time Crisis 3 was the only game I've ever been close to 1LC'ing, not that I'm sure light gun games count.

Stage 3, in the room with all the monitors. I ducked the first grenade I saw thrown at me, and hunkered down for a bit longer than it took to go over my head because I was being cautious. When I stood up, a second grenade tossed by someone else was right there. Serves me right for not being aggressive enough - it was the only hit I took all game.

Strategy in the game really boils down keep standing and speed trigger every enemy you see. I personally recommend double tapping every handgun shot, since there's no recoil to speak of, and the first shot misses occasionally. As far as defense goes, reflex dodge as many red shots as possible, and memorize any trouble sections. Totally can't remember any high score I got, but I got my accuracy to 80.6% on a full 1CC, if I'm remembering right.

Thing is, I'm sure most people (myself included) only switched to the auxilary weapons when they needed to, and generally stuck with the handgun, since you can fire that just as fast as the machine gun if you're quick enough. My friend watching me asked me why a machine gun even existed. My answer? It's for when your trigger finger gets tired. (Though bullet-for-bullet, the machine gun does more damage, I think.)

But I do remember sniping paratroopers in Stage 1 with grenades. Good times.
