Otakon 2013 - Thursday (Arrival)

So, I went to Otakon 2013 this year, and though I couldn't do everything I wanted to, it was still great.

Now, when last I went in 2011, Otakon announced the guest list like, two weeks in advance (and this was by choice), which was a problem. See, I'm the sort of person who mainly goes to cons for the guests, which means at times I need to get things for them to sign. Which means I import them. I literally bought what I wanted signed the day after the guest list was announced, and they all got to my place the day after I left for the con. So, a word to everyone who runs cons: announce your guests one month in advance if at all possible. If nothing else, the earlier you know, the earlier you can get a hotel.

This year, however, they announced guests a month in advance - Tsukasa Fushimi and Hiroshi Kanbe, the author and director of OreImo, were coming to Otakon along with the world premiere of the second season's ending episodes. Not even Japan would see these episodes before us. I mean, I had already known that T.M. Revolution and Yoko Kanno were going, but this was what set me off. The day this was announced, I knew I was going.

I got to the con on Thursday, at around 6:30... which was about the time it started pouring down rain. I felt sorry for the guys going for prereg that day, and was going to feel sorry for myself for also standing in it, except that by the time I made it to the hotel and back, the rain had stopped. Lucky!

A twenty minute wait left me with my badge in hand (quick!), and I turned my attention towards dinner at the harbor. I had some fish and chips at... what, J. Paul's? It was a little disappointing since I didn't really get fish, but three large fish nuggets. The chips were good though, and it came with coleslaw and... I think pickled seaweed or something. But for the price I paid, I could've gone to Long John Silver's and gotten two days worth of fish and chips (and I would've liked the fish better).
