Otakon 2013 - Saturday (Home Made Kazoku, T.M. Revolution)

When I went to sleep on Friday, I had more or less completed everything I wanted to at the con - OreImo World Premiere, and getting my tapestry signed. So, there wasn't too much pressure for anything else. I did have to wake up early to get Tomokazu Seki's autograph for a friend, but past that point, the only other thing I had on the list was the Home Made Kazoku and T.M. Revolution concert.

So, I got to the con at around 9:00, an hour before the signing, and honestly a little late. They were able to get me into the 10:15 overflow line, and the line was going pretty fast, so as it turned out, getting Seki's signature was pretty easy. So, at 10:30 I was out, and had to think of ways to waste time.

I stopped by the Nintendo history fan panel for a bit, and was reminded of things like the Legend of Zelda cartoon and that movie that I sheltered myself from as a kid. After lunch, I stopped by the Hiroyuki Kanbe panel. Kanbe didn't seem to be the sort of person who could think very well on his feet, and took some time thinking about how to answer each question posed to him. But from what I remember from the questions asked of him...

  • When the anime started catching up to the light novels, they had to start prodding Fushimi into finishing his books.
  • The author working with the animation studio is, to a certain extent, uncommon. Fushimi wasn't the sort of person to throw his weight around just because he was the creator, though.
  • He can't think of any dirty little secret about Fushimi, but is sure that Fushimi'd be a little angry if there were and they were spilled.
  • He would rather fight one horse-sized duck than a hundred duck-sized horses.

... And so after this, I wasted more time in the dealer's room before heading into the line for the concert at 14:00. I was an hour early for seating.

Home Made Kazoku... was an okay show. I wasn't really into them, and actually only knew one of the songs they performed (which surprised me, I thought I'd know none), but I guess their type of music isn't so much my type of music. So then, T.M. Revolution came to the stage. Now, if you know anything about Japanese otaku culture, you've probably heard of this guy. The man is famous, and he makes pretty good music. And apparently, he puts on really good shows. Admittedly, I haven't been keeping up with him as much as I used to (the only song he sang that I recognized was Heart of Sword), but I was pumped and I was entertained during his concert. And for his encore, he brought out Home Made Kazoku to the stage, and they performed together, which topped off the concert really well.

So, I had a good time, and afterward... found myself with very little to do. All I really did past that point was hang out in the game room, where I played a bunch of games I had never played in a long time (and thus played them pretty poorly). Unsurprisingly, I did best in Gradius V (stage 4 in one credit) and Ikaruga (Hard Mode, at least I remembered how to take out the first boss without losing a life). I chanced upon some Idolm@ster fans after all that, and hung out with them until the game room closed. And with that, my day was over.
